H1N1 (Swine Flu)
1. What is H1N1?
- H1N1 is a new flu virus that is similar to the regular flu.
2. Why is it called the swine flu?
- H1N1 is also called the swine flu because this virus is similar to viruses that occur in pigs.
3. How can I prevent from getting the H1N1?
- Wash hands regularly for about 20 seconds.
- Consistently use hand sanitizer
- Cough/ Sneeze inside of your arm
- Clean common used surfaces frequently (i.e. phones, keyboards, remote controllers, etc.)
4. Where can I get the H1N1 vaccine on campus?
- The Dowell Health center holds various vaccination clinics to students and faculty that fall into category. For more information call (410)- 704-2466
5. Who falls into the category to get the vaccine first?
- Pregnant women
- Those that care for infants
- 25-64 (however that Towson’s vaccine clinics are letting TU students as young as 18 to get the shot, if under 18 and a TU student, get permission from a guardian.

Making wise health decisions
8. Where can I go to exercise?
- Towson’s Burdick Gym is a good place to workout. The have basketballs gyms, fitness gyms, rock climbing, yoga classes and a swimming pool.
9. Where can I go to exercise off campus?
- Gold’s Gym (Allegheny Ave.)
- Bally Total Fitness (Joppa Rd.)
10. Who can I talk to about my health?
- While the best person to talk to about your health is your primary physician, Towson’s Dowell Health Center has some great physicians on campus.

11.Where is the Dowell Health Center located?
- Dowell Health Center is across the street from the Newell Dining Hall and directly in back of the Counseling Center?
12. Do I need an insurance card to be seen?
- An insurance card is helpful, if not you can pay with cash. For more info contact the Dowell Health Center.
13. Is payment due right away?
- Payment is due right away and if not, fees will be charged to your TU account.
14. Does Dowell Health Center have HIV testing?
- Yes Dowell has free HIV testing to all TU students on Tuesdays from 10:30-3:30p.m.
Stress Management
15. Does the Counseling Center deal with more than stress management?
- The Counseling Center deals with any problems that a TU student may have.
16. Do I need an insurance card to be seen?
- Although not required if you have an insurance card you are ask to bring it, but nothing will be billed to your account or to your insurance company.
